Salt Farming at Phetchaburi Province
Visiting Salt farming to see salt-making season, stop at one of the salt ponds and have a look. Very interesting and educational. Fascinating to learn about the evaporation process
Phetchaburi Province is a large sea salt production area not far from Bangkok. Sea salt is produced by bringing sea water into wide flat fields and letting the sun evaporate the water away. What is left behind is the sea salt which is gathered by the salt farmers. Phetchaburi has many salt fields because of its peat soil. Peat soil has unique qualities, one of which is not allowing water to seep into it. Each salt field is generally ten acres and their white brilliance is beautiful to look at.
